A rare piece of history lies in Sweet Grass County, twenty-three miles north of Big Timber, Montana. With dates carved in stone (literally), this remarkable treasure dates back to 1862. The "halfway house" welcomed weary travelers on the Bozeman-Miles City stage line. As evidenced in the original abstract, a formal transfer to its first private owner was signed by President Grover Cleveland in 1909. Preserved and transformed in 2012, a contemporary addition joins the south wall of the original stone house to provide unobstructed views of the White Beaver Valley.
